Samantha Ellis Fox (Northern Irish b. 1969) is known predominantly for her oil based landscapes, but has recently begun to develop her work to include figurative paintings and drawings. Based in the remote northwest corner of Ireland, where the environment provides an ever changing scenario of light, air, wind and water, together with boglands, mountains, sea and islands this is where Samantha gleans her inspiration for her work.
Samantha is a prolific painter and her disciplined work ethic means she is always busy, developing and moving between medium and subject matter, intuitively changing and developing her language of painting and drawing. Her confidence in her work as a painter has shifted as her journey has unfolded over the last 25 years, changing in both their power and subtlety. Long since one of the leading artists in the North West, Samantha Ellis-Fox has an easily recognisable style. She has exhibited regularly on both sides of the border of Ireland and has shown at the Royal Dublin Society, Royal Ulster Academy, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and as an invited artist at King House, Co Roscommon. She has won numerous awards for her work from the Office of Public Works, Ireland, private galleries and was awarded a travel bursary to Paris, France to represent her council area developing work with three other international artists. Her work is held in private and public collections including that of the Office of Public Works and the Northern Ireland Department of Finance and Personnel. Her work has also been recently included in The Public Catalogue Foundation “Oil Paintings in Public Ownership”. More recently in 2019, Samantha has had work accepted at three Academies; The Royal Hibernian Academy, 189th Annual Exhibition, Dublin, Royal Ulster Academy 138th Annual Exhibition, Belfast and The Royal Scottish Academy, 193rd Annual Exhibition, Edinburgh.
